Strohm’s first album in eight years, Everyday Life features a dozen semi-autobiographical portraits of characters both down and out and on the verge of breaking free. It’s also a rather brilliant summation of Strohm's career thus far: he allows each song to inhabit a space all its own while recalling the work (Blake Babies, Lemonheads) that cemented his notoriety. Whether it’s the punk crunch of his tenure in Boston or the country tinges of 1996’s Caledonia, Everyday Life is the sound of a reckoning – and not just professionally: A sum of personal influences ranging from Spacemen 3 to Gram Parsons to The Band infects every measure.
